The Senior Guest House...
is Ohio's first Senior Guest House and is one of only a dozen in the United States.

The Senior Guest House is unique. It is not a shelter, but is designed as a temporary home and safe haven for older persons 60+ who must leave their home or apartment due to unforeseen circumstances, such as fire, structural damage, or loss of income.

The Senior Guest House can accommodate up to 8 residents at a time. Residents have private bedrooms and share the house amenities: Full kitchen, 3 bathrooms, living room and laundry space. The first floor is wheelchair accessible.

Guest are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities for continuous learning available at Fairhill - many guests have seen the Computer Leaning Center and peer-led exercise groups as an immediate benefit.

To ensure the safety of guests and staff, the Senior Guest House Rules are as follows:
- No alcohol or illegal drugs
- No weapons on the premises
- No smoking inside the Guest House
- Length of stay from 1 to 90 days

About the Guests...
The Senior Guest House opened in June 2004 and by March 2006, over 40 guests will call it home.

These men and women came to the Senior Guest House for many reasons. Among them:
- Social isolation
- Lack of social support in a crisis
- House Fires
- Evictions

- Loss of Income
- Sudden Unemployment

Feedback from Guests...
Fairhill staff (paid and volunteer) work with each guest to ensure guest are actively engaged in moving forward on plans to secure a new residence or return to previous residence.

Each guest completes an evaluation at the end of their stay, and a reoccurring positive is the staff support. Guests have said that they have been greeted by staff who not only have been kind and helpful but are good listeners.

Direct quotes are as follows:

"While here I met some remarkable people and it made a bad experience good."

"It's been so good having a roof over my head."

CLEVELAND -- When an independent senior without a family gets down on their luck, there's not a whole lot of places for them to go. Now there's a safe haven for seniors who have to leave their homes temporarily or permanently.
As Health Anchor Monica Robins shows us, it's the first facility of its kind in Ohio.
